Some amputees resist wheelchairs because the chair feels like a symbol. They associate walking with success and sitting with failure.

That is nonsense worth discarding.

A wheelchair is transportation. A prosthesis is transportation. Crutches are transportation. A scooter is transportation. Your body is trying to get from one place to another. Use the tool that works.

A wheelchair might let you stay at an event longer. Travel farther. Protect irritated skin. Recover from surgery. Handle an airport. Navigate a museum. Keep participating when prosthetic use is not practical.

That is not defeat. That is smart resource management.

The strongest amputee in the room is not necessarily the one standing. It may be the person who stopped worrying about appearances long enough to choose the equipment that actually works.

Independence is not about using the device other people consider most impressive. Independence is about having enough choices that you can keep going where you want to go.

Use the chair. Use the prosthesis. Use both. Change your mind tomorrow. Mobility is not a purity test.
