Transfers take time. Getting dressed may take time. Putting on a prosthesis takes time. Navigating stairs takes time. Getting into a vehicle may take time. Moving through a crowded restaurant may take time.
You know what does not help? Apologizing every twelve seconds.
“Sorry.” “Sorry.” “Sorry, just give me a minute.”
You are not causing a moral emergency because someone waited fifteen extra seconds.
Take the time you need. Move safely. Set yourself up properly. People who care about you can wait. Strangers can wait too.
Rushing often creates more problems than moving deliberately. It can throw off balance, make transfers sloppier, increase frustration, and turn a manageable task into a bad experience.
There is an important difference between consideration and apology. Be considerate. Say thank you when someone gives you space. Let people know if you need a minute. But do not treat your existence as an inconvenience.
Your body has a different process now. That process does not need permission.
