This week’s Reader Dispatches section is a prompt, not a collection of invented reader quotes. We will print reader voices when readers actually send them and give us permission to use them.

What did you refuse to give up this week?

Maybe it was driving yourself to an appointment. Going back to the shop. Making dinner. Getting on the floor with your kid even though getting back up required planning. Wearing shorts in public. Asking for an accommodation instead of pretending you did not need one. Going to therapy. Skipping therapy for one day because you needed rest. Returning to the gym. Taking the wheelchair because it made the day easier. Putting the prosthesis on. Taking it off.

The answer does not have to be heroic. In fact, we are more interested in the ordinary things people fight to keep than in polished comeback stories.

Maybe the thing you refused to give up was small enough that nobody else noticed. That is fine. The newspaper is allowed to care about small things. Most lives are built out of them.

Send a few sentences. Tell us what happened, why it mattered, and whether we may publish your first name, initials, or no name at all. We may edit for length and clarity, but we will not turn your story into somebody else’s motivational poster.
